The Plateau State Association of Tech Companies (PLATEC) has a new leader—Stephen Sunday, and he is stepping into the role with a clear mission—to transform Plateau State into a thriving technology hub. With a vision centred on innovation, investment, and collaboration, Stephen Sunday, the newly elected PLATEC Chairman aims to push the boundaries of what is possible for the tech ecosystem in the state.

“I am committed to ensuring our ecosystem thrives,” Sunday said.

His leadership strategy revolves around three core areas: securing startup funding, driving digital skills development, and advocating for policies supporting tech innovation. By harnessing emerging technologies such as blockchain and Web3, he envisions Plateau as a destination for tech-driven solutions with a global reach.

At the heart of his vision is the potential of Web3 and blockchain to reshape key industries such as agriculture, fintech, and education. He sees decentralized finance (DeFi) and transparent supply chains as tools that will create new economic opportunities in Plateau.

“We will drive blockchain adoption through hands-on training, mentorship, and strategic partnerships,” he explained. “Startups need to see real-world applications, and that’s exactly what we’ll focus on.”

However, he acknowledges the hurdles ahead—limited awareness, infrastructure gaps, and regulatory uncertainty. To address these challenges, PLATEC will work on educational initiatives, policy advocacy, and simplified blockchain integration to ensure that Plateau’s tech sector remains competitive.

Strengthening Collaborations for a Thriving Tech Community

A thriving tech ecosystem doesn’t grow in isolation. The Chairman understands this and is prioritizing partnerships with academic institutions, government agencies, and private investors. His goal is to create incubation programs, student innovation challenges, and faculty-industry collaborations that will nurture the next generation of tech talent.

“We will engage in policy discussions, push for startup-friendly regulations, and organize government-tech forums,” he shared. “Public-private partnerships are key to building a robust digital economy in Plateau.”

Beyond local collaborations, he also aims to put Plateau on the global tech map. Under his leadership, PLATEC will participate in major international conferences such as GITEX, the Web3 Summit, and the Africa Tech Festival to showcase Plateau’s tech potential to the world.

Empowering Startups and Expanding Access to Funding

A strong startup ecosystem requires access to funding, and that’s where PLATEC will play a critical role. The Chairman plans to create multiple funding avenues through investment summits, pitch competitions, and strategic partnerships with venture capitalists and angel investors.

“Our focus is on ensuring startups can scale effectively,” he noted. “We will provide not just funding but also investment readiness training to help founders attract and secure capital.”

In addition to financial support, PLATEC will bolster tech hubs and incubators by facilitating mentorship programs and infrastructure development. “We are building an ecosystem where startups can thrive,” he added.

Creating an Inclusive Tech Landscape

Tech development must be inclusive, and the Chairman is dedicated to ensuring that women, youth, and underrepresented groups have equal opportunities. Through targeted training programs, mentorship, and funding access, PLATEC will promote diversity in the industry.

“We are committed to ensuring that tech opportunities in Plateau are accessible to everyone, regardless of background,” he emphasized.

By organizing networking events and outreach programs, PLATEC will create an environment where diverse talents can collaborate and innovate together.

A Passion for Technology and Transformation

His tech journey was fueled by a passion for solving real-world problems. As a seasoned entrepreneur and Web3/Blockchain expert, Sunday brings a wealth of experience in blockchain technology, cryptocurrency, and business development. As the founder of Gonana, a blockchain-powered platform revolutionizing agriculture by connecting farmers to global markets, and KUSU Consult, a software development and blockchain consultancy firm specializing in delivering innovative solutions, he believes that blockchain and web3 stands out as transformative tools that could enhance transparency, financial inclusion, and efficiency in key sectors.

“By integrating blockchain into agriculture, finance, and governance, we can create sustainable economic opportunities and build trust in digital solutions,” he said.

For aspiring tech entrepreneurs in Plateau, his advice is clear: “Stay resilient, keep learning, and don’t be afraid to take risks. Plateau has the potential to lead in tech innovation—our job is to seize that opportunity.”

What’s Next for PLATEC?

Looking ahead, the Chairman’s vision for Plateau is one of transformative growth and unparalleled opportunities within the tech sector. He envisions a future where startups thrive, investments flow, and tech talent is nurtured, making Plateau a beacon of innovation in Africa. His roadmap focuses on expanding mentorship programs, enhancing digital literacy, and solidifying Plateau’s position as a key player in the continent’s tech ecosystem.

“Our mission at PLATEC is to drive innovation, foster collaboration, and create real, meaningful opportunities for all stakeholders,” Sunday said. “We are building something that will not only shape Plateau’s tech future but also put it on the global stage.”

This bold vision is set to usher in a new era for Plateau’s tech landscape, one defined by sustainable growth, global recognition, and new economic avenues. The coming years will be pivotal as PLATEC implements its strategies, aiming to create a thriving tech environment that captures both local and international attention.

Stephen Sunday is not alone in this mission. He is supported by a dynamic team of executives, including Vice Chairman Ibrahim Jimoh, Executive Secretary Elizabeth Hris, Treasurer Stephanie Ideho-Iraoya, Financial Secretary Bulus Azi Nyam, Director of Innovation Saviour O. Anyanwu, Public Relations Officer Joseph Enojo Ajogwu, and Assistant PRO Isaiah Ibigbemi. Together, they are poised to lead Plateau into a future where tech innovation is at the heart of its economic growth and global influence.
